Constructing Famous Structures and Exploring Their Histories

Using simple household materials, build a replica of a human made landmark. Some examples include the Eiffel Tower, Great Wall of China or Great Pyramids of Giza. What materials were used to make the real structure? Where is it on a map or globe? What country is it in?

Science Seed

Historically landmarks were features, either natural or artificial that helped with navigation. They were generally large and easy to see from far away distances. These landmarks, such as mountains, were particularly helpful for sailors and other travelers in providing direction! In modern day, our landmarks are often viewed as monuments symbolizing a certain area, culture or event.

earn Badges

Badges can be earned through hands-on experiences within each of the 16 branches of science, or “Science Slices.” You can earn a badge in each branch of science by doing four activities in these categories. We also encourage participants to keep a Nature Journal to record their memories, and to express themselves creatively through writing or drawing after each activity. We recommend that each child (and parent if they’d like) write or draw in a journal after each activity, with expectations of your children that match their age (the goal is self-expression, not perfection).
