Science Seed

Like every living thing, fish serve an important part in keeping their ecosystems healthy. Fish provide essential nutrients for other species and have important cultural significance all around the world, from being a food source to recreation and sport. However, many fish populations are declining due to human conflict. These threats include overfishing, habitat loss, ocean pollution and rising temperatures. You can do your part to help fish by picking up trash that could wash into the bayou or creek and then into the Gulf, by preventing water pollution, and supporting sustainable fisheries! Look at https://www.seafoodwatch.org to see what fish are most sustainable to eat.

earn Badges

Badges can be earned through hands-on experiences within each of the 16 branches of science, or “Science Slices.” You can earn a badge in each branch of science by doing four activities in these categories. We also encourage participants to keep a Nature Journal to record their memories, and to express themselves creatively through writing or drawing after each activity. We recommend that each child (and parent if they’d like) write or draw in a journal after each activity, with expectations of your children that match their age (the goal is self-expression, not perfection).
