Science Seed

A creation myth is a traditional story that explains how the world, the sky, the land, and all the creatures came into existence. These stories are often passed down through generations and reflect the values, beliefs, and experiences of a culture. For many indigenous groups, including the Lipan Apache, creation myths help explain the relationship between humans and nature, showing how people are connected to the earth, the animals, and the elements around them. Creation myths often include powerful forces or spirits, such as the sun, moon, wind, and water, that shape the world and give it meaning. These myths not only explain how the world came to be but also guide the way people live, showing them how to respect nature, honor the earth, and live in harmony with all living things.

earn Badges

Badges can be earned through hands-on experiences within each of the 16 branches of science, or “Science Slices.” You can earn a badge in each branch of science by doing four activities in these categories. We also encourage participants to keep a Nature Journal to record their memories, and to express themselves creatively through writing or drawing after each activity. We recommend that each child (and parent if they’d like) write or draw in a journal after each activity, with expectations of your children that match their age (the goal is self-expression, not perfection).
