Science Seed

Human geography is the study of how people use and change the land around them. In Memorial Park, you can see human geography in action through the trails that wind along the land’s natural slopes, guiding visitors through the Park. The open spaces for sports and picnics were created because flat land is easier to use. Roads, bridges, and benches are placed where the geography allows, like over streams or under trees. People also shape the land by planting trees or redirecting water to prevent erosion, showing how geography and human activity work together to create spaces we can enjoy.

earn Badges

Badges can be earned through hands-on experiences within each of the 16 branches of science, or “Science Slices.” You can earn a badge in each branch of science by doing four activities in these categories. We also encourage participants to keep a Nature Journal to record their memories, and to express themselves creatively through writing or drawing after each activity. We recommend that each child (and parent if they’d like) write or draw in a journal after each activity, with expectations of your children that match their age (the goal is self-expression, not perfection).
