Exploring Languages on Campus

As you explore the campus listen for different languages. Go on a language scavenger hunt and identify as many languages as you can. How many languages do you speak? How many languages does your class, or group with you today speak?

Science Seed

Pharr is a vibrant community where nearly 84% of residents speak languages other than English, reflecting its rich cultural diversity. While Spanish is the most common, you might also hear languages like Tagalog, Arabic, or indigenous languages such as Nahuatl, Mixtec, and Zapotec. Each of these languages carries unique traditions, stories, and ways of understanding the world. Language can also be an important part of a community’s culture, or shared beliefs and values that are passed down from generation to generation.

earn Badges

Badges can be earned through hands-on experiences within each of the 16 branches of science, or “Science Slices.” You can earn a badge in each branch of science by doing four activities in these categories. We also encourage participants to keep a Nature Journal to record their memories, and to express themselves creatively through writing or drawing after each activity. We recommend that each child (and parent if they’d like) write or draw in a journal after each activity, with expectations of your children that match their age (the goal is self-expression, not perfection).
